For info:
When cooking the meat, which in our case is made up of 65% muscle meat, 25% heart and 10% lung, meat juice can leak out. Depending on the type of meat used (e.g. young or old animal) and its composition, the contents of the can can look different. Muscle meat consists of connective tissue, which contains collagen. Tendons and cartilage are also made of collagen. This collagen slowly turns into gelatine during cooking - the soft, slimy mass that you also know from cake icing. This gelatine, in turn, is responsible for the meat not drying out, but becoming juicier the longer it is cooked.
Since we do not use any binding agents at all, the consistency is subject to uncontrollable fluctuations. So if there is more meat broth or gelatine in the can, this has nothing to do with the quality. On the contrary, the dogs even love this slimy part.
This is in the can:
- Muscle meat: a source of protein that provides vitamins, minerals and trace elements. High-quality meat contains essential fatty acids and amino acids that are normally responsible for building muscle. Beef has the highest levels of zinc and iron and is rich in vitamin B12.
- Heart: is strictly speaking a muscle, although the organ is often listed separately due to its exceptional nutrient content and is treated like offal when fed to dogs. It has a high protein content, hardly any fat and therefore few calories. In addition, beef heart is very rich in vitamins and full of minerals.
- Lungs: Offal, such as lungs, contains a lot of vitamins A, D and C and has a high water content.
